Root Form Implants

Root form implants, cylinder-shaped or coiled type of implants are designed to uphold attachment to the bone of the teeth. This implant is the most extensively used replacement for natural tooth roots and is the most customary kind of implant. This is typically made by titanium; a metal known to be efficient at fusing with living bone is tailor-fit for osseointegration.

Root form implants are generally placed where there is abundant width and depth of jawbone so as to provide a base for replacement. It is especially made as a substitute for single misplaced tooth, a replacement of an arch with over dentures or utilization of stationary bridges. Bone grafting is needed if placement cannot be done because of narrowness.

Patients having missing teeth, and those having replaced or substituted tooth roots resort for root form implants. Root form implants comprise several phases. Firstly, the above tooth would be rid off after undergoing root canal and having developed a root fracture. An opening would be made in the gums once healed, to have contact to the site implanted. Secondly, tomograms would be taken to the site of the implant. The implant would be left to settle in the bone. Thirdly, incision would be made on top of the implant body – after it healed at approximately 4 to 6 months – then, a subsequent part of the implant is fastened. Lastly, impression would be made to the abutment produced (to the implant) that is attached previously, and after which a porcelain sealed to white gold crown will be fabricated. The crown will then be ready for chewing.

Total time of treatment usually takes around a few weeks to more than six months. Caution should be ruled, as health condition may contraindicate implant therapy - including alcohol over use, too much smoking, and other chronic diseases. It should be acknowledged that implants are far more durable than natural teeth.
